Report on Secondment at Chorherrenstift Klosterneuburg

My secondment at Chorherrenstift Klosterneuburg took place from 21 March to 20 April 2026. During my stay, I divided my time between work on the PAMELA project and research for my doctoral dissertation. Within the PAMELA project (specifically as part of WP2 “Scribes”), I focused on the identification of colophons in selected medieval Latin manuscripts from the Klosterneuburg library, their transcription and documentation, and the entry of newly identified records into the project database. In total, I dedicated five working days to this manuscript-based work.

The remainder of my time was devoted primarily to my doctoral dissertation entitled “The Ideological Birth of the ‘New Chivalry’: Bernard of Clairvaux and His Treatise De laude novae militiae in the Context of the Development of the Relationship between the Church and Warfare in the Middle Ages”, with particular focus on the preparation of a chapter dealing with the origins of knighthood and its Christianisation in the medieval West.

The stay provided a great opportunity both to contribute to the PAMELA project through direct work with manuscript material and to advance my dissertation research in a focused academic environment. Direct work with medieval manuscripts offered a valuable complement to my usual research activities and broadened my practical experience with manuscript material.
